I think this is a bit of a man's film, for god's sake don't sit down to watch it with the wife and kids. You'll see more kills in this film than the next 300 you might watch, not to mention the serious maiming !
This true story centres on a crack army of 300 Spartans facing a huge Persian force, the Spartans gather in a small pass so their enemy can only advance a few at a time and boy they can work a sword !
I know this is over dramatised and although this did happen it didn't happen quite like this but that aside this Greek version of Zulu will not disappoint.

Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 takes over the screen like an invading horde. With all the gushing blood of a horror movie and the scope of a classic epic, the second film from Zack Snyder (who helmed the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD) is an impressive visual spectacle. Gerard Butler (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) plays Leonidas, the king of ancient Sparta. The city is famous for its warrior philosophy, and Leonidas won't kneel to the demands of Persia's King Xerxes (LOST's Rodrigo Santoro). Instead, Leonidas leads his 300-strong army against Xerxes's army of millions. Meanwhile, his wife (Lena Headley, THE BROTHERS GRIMM) campaigns in Sparta for the city to send reinforcements as she butts heads with the treacherous Theron (Dominic West, THE WIRE). With its gore and scale, 300 marks director Snyder as a possible successor to Peter Jackson's throne. Jackson also got his start in horror with BAD TASTE and DEAD ALIVE, and the two men share a penchant for ambitious battle scenes. The huge fights in 300 rival Jackson's efforts in the LORD OF THE RINGS films. David Wenham, who starred in two of the Tolkien-based films, plays Dilios, one of the Spartan soldiers. Though the cast doesn't boast any A-list stars, the actors ably fill their larger-than-life roles. In a film filled with men, Headley stands out as Queen Gorgo. She matches her warrior husband in strength, while showing love toward Leonidas and their son. Though there are scenes that demonstrate the humanity of the characters, 300 is undeniably about bravery and blood, and it succeeds because of the stylish depictions of both.

Great direction and cinematography.

If you want to see an all action 'blokes' film then this is it. Blood thirsty and great set pieces make this one of my favourite films and I would recommend anyone seeing the Bluray version on a big screen :o)

a great film with a good storyline as it shows you how a hanful of soldiers stood against an million men.

my husband enjoyed this film immensly, quality was good, lots of effects. Good historical film if you are into this kind of history, though the film does explain the story a little.

This is a visual feast of a film. Based on a comic book by Frank Miller the story of the doomed stand of 300 Spartans is trancended from history to legend. It looks like a comic strip come to life, and uses every cinematic and CGI trick to enhance the story. The characters are well drawn but deliciously cliched - this is legend, not fact - the heroes are heroic and the bad guys are quirkily nasty! There is also surprising humour from the Spartans, especially King Leonidas, a true refection of the Spartan way. The love between Leonidas and his Queen is both touching and tragic. The action and battle scenes are just breathtaking. Also, as a straight female, I can't complain about the sight of 300 buff, well built warriors wearing very little! Gerald Butler is brilliant as Leonidas and David Wenham is a terrific narrator. Queen Gorgo is played beautifully and Xerxes is thoroughly decadent.
This is not a film for those who like historical accuracy, but if you like epic fantasy, stunning visuals and fast action, then this is for you.

Great film, fantastic special effects. Great story line and very well acted.I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It grabs you from the start and doesn't put you down until the very end!

From the maker of Sin City, Frank Miller has created yet another epic movie. 300 is based on the 300 Spartan soldiers that fought the persians in the battle of thermopylae in 380bc. The movie is visually stunning and has an ok storyline, although it is not completely correct and features mythical creatures and monsters it is still a gripping movie from start to end. Especially if you like war movies such as Gladiator and Troy etc then you will love this movie. It is already a classic. If you have already seen this movie and you liked it then you will most likely have it. If you havent seen it yet then what are you waiting for buy it! I cant give it 5 stars that many people reccomend. Simply because the story isnt really that good, it is good but not excellent, once youve watched it once youve really seen it a thousand times, it can get quite boring if youve seen it 20 times. Still, it is visually stunning, has a great cast and setting, and the brutality of the movie is awesome. Thanks for reading hope it hepled - 4Stars **** kierans93

missed it at the cinema, and am interested in history, adding to my film collection, thought this would make good addition, and was not disspointed, all action ,some factual some writers flare, but 300 spartans did hold off thousands of enemies according to history, as they were fierce warriors on more than one occasion out numbered great film recommended

The actual battle scenes of this movie are excellent. I must confess that me it was just a little off putting at first that the figures appeared to be computer generated. Having said that once past this blip I throughly enjoyed the film itself. Action packed and fast moving. Although the historic facts are off key sit back and enjoy it for its pure entertainment value. You won't be disappointed.
