Sequel to the Horror Flick '24 Hours Later'.

As good as, or even better than the original.

A quarantine zone has been set up on the Isle of Dogs. The survivors from the 'Rage Virus' are protected by the US Army.

The film is largely centred around one particular family.

The 'authorities' believe the Rage Virus has been eliminated. Of course everyone bar them knows it has not. Cue some wicked graphic scenes of horror, blood and gore.

The story line is great. Special effects are fantastic.

Summary: a gripping gruesome horror film that ranks with the best of the 'undead zombie' movies. If you like this genre, this film is a must.

Review of the hit sequal 28 WEEKS LATER !
Review created: 05/09/07

28 Weeks later is the hit sequel to the shocking 28 Days later and actually surpasses the original. The film centers on a family re-united by some returning refugees to a quarantined safe zone in London (the Isle of Dogs) and despite the best efforts of the U.S. army, events escalate to a thrilling climax. The sequels larger budget is clearly visible throughout the entire film and had some gorgeous special effects which help add to the tension and storyline.

Fans of the horror genre will find this a real treat with a high level of gore and sick moments which will satisfy even the most hardcore of fans and is not for the faint hearted.

Overall the films is an excellent sequel and will be a contender for best horror film of the year, absolutely superb!

When I heard that this was coming out, I was expecting the best sequal ever so much. The original is arguably THE zombie master piece but the sequel involved almost none of the original minds that brought us the stark terror of "28 Days Later", which combined the threats of disease and it's deadly effects on the mind which caused those infected by what became known as the "Rage Virus" to viciously and relentlessly attack the uninfected, either killing the victim or spreading the disease. A sequel had potential of course, and I expected it to be not as good as the first. Boy, was I wrong. People I spoke to said that the first film was boring for the first twenty minutes; I disagree, and thought it was great but thats me but that issue has been addressed nonetheless. The beginning of 28 weeks later flashes back to another group of people during the first outbreak. Their fate is one you won't forget; it is chaotic, terrifying, dramatic, hopeless, and heartbreaking, all within one fairly short chain of events. That's when I knew this film was going to be the best ever sequal to the first one and was going to be everything I wished it would be and it never let me down. This film is epic and personal, gruesome yet thrilling and exciting sit on the edge horror entertaiment that you want, and it manages to give you everything you want, even when you had no clue that you wanted it. The evolution of the Rage Virus is a fascinating one in that it manages to outlive the death of all of the infected who all starved because they ate everybody by lying in a rare gene that allows some people to be carriers of the virus without succumbing to it's effects. The result: even kissing your wife could be the deadly for a new, outbreak. The story starts after 28 weeks after the infection dies and the US military is overseeing the repopulation of London; or a district of London to be precise sector 1. Every step is taken to ensure that the virus that was the infection that wiped Great Britain's population clean off the earth is not repeated. Naturally, the virus finds a way. As the new population of sector 1 run and try to escape from the compromised quarantine and the murderous zombies, there is an amazing and most thrilling scene where the rooftop snipers are frantically trying to distinguish the civilians from the infected as they run down a typical london street. The chaos and hopelessness of the situation are visable to them and as the camera shows us through a soldier's scope just what he is up against in somewhat fashion. The way that these situations of large-scale human terror are turned into personal struggles is what makes this movie a thrilling classic to watch again and again in my mind where it otherwise would have been just another great horror film. There is plenty more scenes of deserted London that bring back memories of the first film. Another brilliant touch. And the final shot of the film, while not unexpected, is one that will chill you to the bone make your hairs stand on end and thrill you at the same time. This is an absolute thrill of a ride take-no-prisoners film, and a work of terror that must be viewed by all professing to be hard core horror fans you will love this I DID. xxx

This sequel is better than the original film, which is rare with sequels.
It picks up the story as the title suggests 28 weeks later and Britain is free of the rage virus.
Its based around the story of a family reuniting after being seperated by the quarantine. Robert Carlyle plays the father figure who is reunited with his two children, they have to live in the only area cleared from bio hazards the Isle of Dogs.
I won't spoil the ending but it leaves the way open for another sequel.
I enjoyed this movie so much i watched the special features a first for me, it answered a lot of the quetions such as how do they get london to look so deserted.

Following the release of the rage virus in 28 Days Later, Britain is empty. Now, with the Isle of Dogs as their base, the US Army arrives to reboot the country - starting with the repatriation of the thousands of Britons who sat out the disaster abroad. But is it really safe to return?
As a sequel, 28 Weeks Later... does its job too well - that is, it apes the original's brilliance, but also its flaws. As in the earlier film, the opening sequence is utter brilliance. Taking for granted that the audience know the scenario, we're introduced to Don (Carlyle) and his wife (McCormack) who, together with a group of strangers, are holed up in an old farmhouse. With candlelit meals and access to a decent wine cellar, the scenario could be described as cosy, were it not for the trauma etched on the survivors' faces.

Then, just as we saw in the first film, the slightest mistake lets hell in through the window. To give away the outcome of this opening, pre-credits sequence would be to drop a clunking spoiler, but it's a superb example of the filmmakers' ratcheting up the tension. Would that they had kept it up throughout.

That's not to say 28 Weeks Later... flags as soon as the opening credits have rolled. No, what makes it so disappointing is how brilliant 90 per cent of the film is. Employing the same rough and ready filming technique as its prequel, 28 Weeks Later... evokes a world that feels just one degree removed from our own.

By borrowing from real life situations - the US troops are straight out of Iraq, while the wall of photos and plaintive notes to loved ones recall the aftermath of 9/11 and the 2004 Asian tsunami - the set-up on the Isle of Dogs is thoroughly and frighteningly convincing. There's no horror movie gloss here - this looks as real as the 'News At Ten'.

As with more traditional horror/disaster movies, 28 Weeks Later... throws together a group of disparate characters. We have siblings Tammy (Poots) and Andy (Muggleton) who, having been on a school trip to Spain during the events of the previous film, are among the first children to return to the UK. They are taken under the wing of US Army medic Scarlet (Byrne, star of Boyle and Garland's Sunshine; the writer and director of the first film here take executive producer credits).

For fire-power, there's maverick marine Sergeant Doyle, played by Jeremy Renner, a talented character actor who's been on the verge of fully-fledged fame for years. Just as 28 Days Later... catapulted Cillian Murphy into the stratosphere, 28 Weeks Later... will surely do the same for Renner; he's by far the best element in an outstanding cast. It's just a shame we don't get to see more of him.

Once disaster strikes, the film descends into dizzying chaos. While this provides many bravura set-pieces - including a sight only described in the first film, of the virus's rapid and bloody spread through a crowd of people - we lose our grip on the characters. We haven't seen enough of them to start caring and, when they are picked off like cattle, the effect is numbing rather than horrifying.

With more twists, turns and carefully orchestrated breathing spaces for character development, this could have been one of the best horror movies for years. You won't hear a reviewer say this often, but we could have done with an extra half an hour.

If you had ever been in London, you will recognice many of the places that the movie shows.
Very good filmed, good script and a good perfomance of the cast. It contains some hard secuences but this is not the most important thing of the movie.

The opening scene is just awesome.
Even being so good movie I have to say that the director forget a little the zombie thing, focusing in other things like family and military invasion.

Anyway, scary as hell, this is a MUST SEE MOVIE.
Congratulations to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (director, from Spain) and of course to Danny Boyle.

Now unlike Hostel Part 1 & 2 which was just sick and full of blood, this is a TRUE horror that reflects it's point, purpose and solution!

I recommend this film to horror lovers, as i truly loved this film, may not be suited for people with weak heart conditions.

It is action packed and the location is simply THE BEST any one who lives in London CENTRAL LONDON by the Dome or EAST END OR IN WEMBLEY / KINGSBURY / HARROW area as the film goes towards WEMBLEY STADIUM!!!!!!!!!

Yes our area's are on DVD!!! lol

Great film take my word for it, i loved every bit of it!

28 Weeks Later Mini Review (No Spoilers)
Review created: 25/07/07

This is the sequel of the movie "28 days later" which takes as 6 months after the first one. All the infected have died of starvation and London is beginning to repopulate. Again something goes wrong and everybody is running for their lives.
This is pretty much the synopsis of the movie. The scenery (central London) is nice and special effects are ok also. The movie has nothing more to show you than the first one and it is not a movie that you are going to remember for more than a week.
If you like gore, blood and splatter then this movie is for you. If you want a plot, some descent acting and a good script then see something else.
Surely not a movie to buy but a movie to rent when you are with your friends.
The most annoying thing was the camera shots which is like an infected has the camera on his hands when he is running.

Sequels are so very often disappointing. 28 Days Later was a very good film and 28 Weeks Later is also a very good film. You could watch this without seeing the 1st film and still enjoy it thoroughly. Following on from the 1st film, the UK has been cleansed of the infected people and its time to re-populate, but things never go as they hope. The Rage Virus has changed and it re-appears.
What makes this film and the 1st very frightening is that it is not ghosts or ghoulies but something that really could happen to mankind. It is a believable horror film. It certainly could have the watcher hiding behind the sofa.
So take your popcorn and sit down and enjoy. I certainly did.

Is as good as the first (28 Days later) if not better. Carlyle's best performance in a serious role. Far more suspense than any other film of it's genre and some heart-rending moments to boot. I bought it for a friend having seen it some time ago

  Yes, its good
Review created: 16/11/08

Zombie movies, more so than, say, slasher or possessed-ventriloquist-dummy films, seem to carry the burden of conscience on their lumbering, decaying shoulders. George Romero, often credited with creating the zombie genre, threw a hodge-podge of social relevance into 1968's Night of the Living Dead, ranging from the Cold War to racism in the '60s. That movie's sequel, Dawn of the Dead, took on consumerism, and the recent Land of the Dead tackled class differences (rather shakily) and the Iraq war. 2002's terrific 28 Days Later not only created a new zombie archetype, it also had something to say about AIDS and an overzealous military.

So it's not really surprising that the sequel, 28 Weeks Later, takes on the current war in Iraq; the original was pretty much heading that way. What is surprising, though, is the sheer vitriol coursing through its veins. This is a much darker, much bleaker film than its predecessor, lacking even that movie's very occasional sliver of mood-lightening. 28 Weeks Later isn't very interested in letting you have a good time. Rather, it wants to wring you out, and you're either the type who will enjoy this or not.

Me? Totally enjoyed it. After a fantastic beginning, soaked with shaky-cam violence, 28 Weeks Later settles down for a bit to introduce its plot. After the outbreak chronicled in the first film, the rage-infected "zombies" have starved to death, and London has been quarantined off to protect its citizens from any more attacks from the outside. There's a great scene where the people being admitted back into the city are told of how life is getting back to normal in the destroyed city. "There's even running water," they are informed. Their faces light up, and it's a grim reminder of just how quickly the things we take for granted can vanish.

We are introduced to two children, who will become the primary focus of this film. Tammy, the older sister, and Andy, the youngest person in London at 12-years-old, are the children of Doyle (Robert Carlyle), a maintenance worker who survived that bloody opening scene. Their mother was apparently not so lucky, and the kids escape from the quarantined area to their old house, so Andy can have a picture to remember her by. They find more than a picture, though, and this is where the film takes off.

One of the pleasures of 28 Days Later was the convincingly deserted streets of London. Cillian Murphy wandered around the city in a daze, and it felt like he was the only one there. This film even exceeds that. The filmmakers have done an amazing job at making London look and feel like an abandoned theme park. After a while, you stop even thinking about how they managed to pull the effect off. These kids are the only ones there. When a military helicopter breaks this dream-like state, it's truly startling, because we've bought this illusion so fully.

Very good sequal to the original but the hollywood style to the film detracts from the indenpendant style of the first film. This sequel is a high budget version of the first which detracts from the 'cool' element of the first film but taken on its own its a very good polished horror movie and a worthwhile watch, even if you have not seen the first one

A well executed sequel to 28 Day's Later. Action was fast paced and made you want to know what was going to happen next. Perfect blend of actors and characters. If you enjoyed 28 Days Later, this is a must see for fans of the genre. Unlike 99% of sequels we see these days, this film could actually carry itself through the first film and beyond into the next installment.

I thought 28 days later was wicked and had heard 28 weeks later was just as good so thought i would get it, it was good but not as good as i was expecting, would have been alot better if alot of it wasn t in the dark so you could actually see what was going on when the infected were attacking, also the story line wasn t as good as the first film would like to have known what happened to the chopper at the end of the film. Still it was a good film and from the ending there may be another film in the pipe line. look forward to it!

The DVD was a gift for my brother for christmas, and consequently I haven't watched it as much as he has, but from what I've seen it is an excellent film. If any of you have seen '28 Days later' you'll no how good that is, and so how much it would take for this sequel to be better and more action packed than its prequel. It is based 6 months after '28 Days Later' and at the start of the film London is being repopulated after the virus that had infected London had supposedly been destroyed, but the 'Rage Virus' is carried back into the capital and the killing starts once more. There are some great scenes in this film and Robert Carlyle is excellent as the leading man. The action scenes outclass the 1st film making this a must see film. A great edge of your seat film that will make you jump and scream.

This film takes off from the last film (28 days later), with the zombies still rife. It then goes on to london becomig free of zombies and the attempt at trying to re-populate the city.

It is a film that is equally gorey as the first, but with a twist to the virus.
It is an enjoyable film and a worthy sequel.
