24 - Series 4 - Complete (DVD)

24 must be one of the best TV shows around. Incredibly exciting, with complex plots, great special effects, and top-notch acting, this is literally edge-of-your-seat television.
Season 4 was not my favourite season, but it was still fantastic. Unlike seasons 2 & 3, it gets going straight away, with a massive train explosion in the first minutes, and you immediately become gripped by the action. The pace is maintained for the first 12 or so episodes, but halfway through it does slow down and begins to drag slightly in comparison. However, even 24 at its slowest is still faster-paced than most shows, and the action soon picks up again with some cracking final episodes that had me actually biting my nails.

As usual the regular actors all do a great job - Jack is intense and sexy, Tony does a brilliant job of portraying a hurt and confused man on the edge of giving up, and Chloe is consistently hilarious in her own off-beat way. The new characters are a bit more hit and miss - Erin Driscoll and Edgar Stiles are both brilliantly portrayed, but Marianne is very cliched, Curtis is boring without any personality, and Audrey is a little annoying - she appears shocked every time Jack has to hit someone.

Overall though it's amazing television, and the sort of programme that once you've bought the boxset, you'll end up watching about 6 episodes in a row because it's so exciting.

The boxset itself is attractively presented - a plastic book-style design with a glossy cover and a cardboard slipcase. I also have to say a word about the special features - WOW! An entire extra disc of features includes:

-Breaking Ground: Building the New CTU (approx 18 minute documentary on building the CTU set and shooting there)
-Blood on the Tracks (approx 15 min documentary on shooting the train explosion, including interviews with the directors and special effects guys)
-Lock and Load (short documentary on the weapons used)
-Nissan Short Film (a beautiful 20 minute promotional film - not much relevance to 24 though!)
-24 The Game (Kiefer Sutherland introduces a behind the scenes look at the PS2 game)
-The Longest Day music video (video for the trance version of the 24 theme)
AND A MASSIVE 40 deleted scenes, which can be watched with or without commentary from director Jon Cassall. Many of them are several minutes long and include entirely new characters or subplots. They also clear up lots of loose ends, such as what happened to Behrooz.

A word of warning though - try not to look at the pictures on the DVD menus, as they often show scenes from the ends of episodes, and can give some of the plot away. Other than that, buy it and enjoy!

Many shows have popped up recently which have really tickled my taste buds, lost etc but one stands out the most 24.

innotive and fantastically done, this season will keep you rivited, If you have seen any other seasons this one is just as good, if not better. you will not be disapointed. kept me rivited throughout, watched the whole series in 3 days it was that good :-D

Yet another spellbinding, edge of seat series of 24.

The writers, directors, production crew and of course the cast need huge pats on the back and immense praise. This is definitely the best of the four, although Ive loved each series!

Please do not be put off by the fact that 24 is striding into it's third season with poor old Jack Bauer still having the worst day of his life! Disc one introduces new charachters and also neatly ties up the loose ends from Season 2. The punchy real time drama effect is not as good as season one, but this is perhaps because as a format it is no longer unique. And for a series set over six discs the good news is that it holds and intensifies its grip on you, the viewer, as the clock ticks away

This show is the best thing I have ever seen.
The action and tension are endless, and the stories are crafted intelligently.
Very rarely can you see where the plot is going to take you.
Everyone told me this was addictive. I thought how can a film or programme be so addictive?
The fact is, every episode leaves on something of a cliffhanger, and when you hear that familiar title music, you can't help but watch "just one more".
It makes shows like The Shield look pathetic in comparison.Yes they are quite different, but the standard of the writing and the magnetism of 24 is missing in The Shield, and many others.
I went out looking for other tv series after watching this, and nothing else compared.
I would recommend starting from season 1 and watching in chronological order to get the most from it.
Beware of the many cheap illegal Asian imports flooding Ebay at the moment.
They may be a bit cheaper, but the quality is markedly different and you are funding illegal crime and god knows what else by buying them.
MAKE SURE YOUR DVD IS A UK REGION 2 RETAIL VERSION.
If in doubt - ask them in no uncertain terms to clarify this. Any reasonable seller will be happy to dismiss your concerns.

missed a lot of them from the tv. Great to be able to watch one after another and also not having to wait for the next episode the folowing wek.

So here we are- another 24 hours and another crisis to deal with. Kim Bauer has gone from the show (which is a good thing as the storylines for her were getting embarrassing- how many times can one girl get kidnapped?) and has taken her fella with her. The plot is ludicrous to say the least; Jack holds up a store to buy time in order to track down a terrorist... but this still holds up and with the reappearance of President Palmer halfway through the show the whole thing moves up a gear. It does have some awful dialogue and some truly atrocious acting (Chloe?! Sorry- she is just annoying. She looks like she is chewing a wasp the whole time). After all is said and done though this is still captivating, brilliant tv. Maybe we have become a little spoiled over the last few years with all the great tv shows coming over from America- but I still think this show can hold its own. So it's silly and over-dramatic (Kiefer Sutherland couldn't order a cheeseburger without making it sound like a matter of life and death ) but for all its faults it is still going strong. I am a little concerned with what will happen in season 5- maybe it's time to change the formula a little : making it a personal mission for Jack would be a good idea. If you are new to the show then I suggest you start at the beginning- but for the rest of us... roll on season 5!

I bought the set as I am collecting each series of 24. The dvd series is just fantastic. The only thing I disliked is that on opening
the set, dvd number 1 was missing and there where two dvd's number 2. This means that the set is no use to me as the first 4 episodes are missing.

A brilliant exciting series, has you on the edge of your seat throughout - hard to resist putting the next disc in each time!

This is by far the best of the 24 series, it has everything from the minute go to the end. Jack is in his elemnent and everybody around him.

The best thing about this 24 series is that Sherry Palmer is not in it, thank God.

I did the whole series in under 2 days, I was so hooked, every minute had something happening.

If you haven't watched 24 before shame on you! Do not watch season 4 if you haven't watched the previous seasons, Season 4 is as brilliant as the earlier 3 seasons, very fast paced and intense drama, Jack is truly an outstanding actor and brings the character of Bauer alive. This show has a great cast, with each character giving 110% to the show.

Every episode just leaves you wanting more, it is a great and exciting concept.

24 Series 4 is the best so far. I found it a compulsive by and ended up watching 2-3 episodes at a time (I would have watched more but have small children so wouldn't be fair on them!). As soon as it finished I ordered series 5... Totally recommend it - its action packed, fast moving and very addictive.

I love all the 24 series'. It is a good variety of action and intrigue along with the odd bit of romance thrown in. Keifer Sutherland is at his very best in the role of Jack Bauer.

I decided to buy series 4 to complete my collection of the 24 series. I bought series 2 off ebay with great success. Great savings on new price are to be had.

My partner loves watching 24 on tv. he neer miss's an episod. he was going to buy all 5 series but i knew i could get a better price on-line. it great and he face lit up when he opened them on his birthday. many thanks.

This series was brilliant. Better than series three and it keeps you on the edge of your seat as did series 1 & 2. Really hooked on this series and its characters.....and I cant wait to see series 5.

Lock the door, unplug the phone, draw the curtains and switch on 24... but be warned of side effects..... Heart pounding, heart stopping, blood racing, edge of your seat drama, and no waiting for the next hour. 100% excellent!!!!!!!

yet another silly US action drama starring the fantastic Kiefer Sutherland and a superb supporting cast. This time round, terrorists have kidnapped both Jack's boss and girlfriend, but that's just the start of, sadly, a weaker plot than previous series (it is very jumpy and seemingly unlinked for the most part). It remains one of the US's most brutal mainstream series, with Jack getting up to his old tricks of murder, torture, and towards the end, storming an embassey. You will be glad to hear that all of the best characters in the series so far return for this as well as an awesome fat guy called Edgar, and another top quality actor (i can't say who as it will spoil the plot). A must see for fans and non-fans alike even if it is not quite as good.

Another great series. A bit slow to start, a bit of dodgy acting from the new characters but apart from that is great!

I bought this because I have watched series 1,2,3 and wanted to see more. The storyline was brilliant and the condition of the discs were first rate. I love all the 24 storylines and look forward to seeing Series 5 and 6.
