24 started as a television conceit, but by the time you arrive at its second season, you will hopefully see it for what it is, an ambitious attempt at a 24 hour movie.
Having seen all seasons, I feel that season 2 best serves 24 as a concept and a real-time drama. A nuclear bomb and a twisting plot are key to what becomes, in my humble opinion, Jack Bauer's best day, so to speak.
Season 1 helped set-up everything for this one. Jack's wife's death, Nina's treachory, Tony's loyalty, Kim's resourcefulness, and above all else, Palmer's dignity and integrity.
24, is ultimately Kiefer's show, and he carries it off beautifully everytime, whether he be weighing down great storylines (a la seasons 1-3) or just plain awful ones (yes, season 4, I am talking about you)
However, season 2 in my eyes is Palmer's story more than anyone else's. It begins on him and ends on him. His first apperance as the President makes me feel though the United States would literally be better off if he was a real man, not just a ficitonal character. A fantastic creation, and performance from Dennis Haysbert, an incredibly underrated and undervalued performer.
There are so many moments that stick in my mind. The way I view 24 is that of a film. The first episode right through to the last is just one long plot for an extremely long film. Talk of a movie of 24 is redundant. They have already done it, time after time, from seasons 1-3, delivering the goods.
The best development involves the much loved character of George Mason who by episode three has inhaled a high dosage of plutonium and is given no more than a day left to live. His story is gripping, and come his demise, undeniably moving. His death is written and performed with such great understanding of how to conjure drama and deepen the meaning of the action set within the show's framework. The season belongs to Xander Berkely's Mason, and in short Kiefer's Bauer, and his face to face with Sarah Clarke's returning Nina Myers.
There is an electrifying scene where they are on a plane transporting her back to Los Angeles, when Jack, completely unprovoked, and unexpectedly begins a monologue about what he did with his wife the day before Nina killed her. So well acted by Kiefer is this scene that you forget this is a tv show. This is a movie. With all the professionalism and grandeure you'd expect from Michael Mann or Tony Scott.
The onyl mis-step is Kim's unfortunate storyline which begins very well, but then take s a serious plunge by the time we get over half way through. However, with that said, she bounces back for a last couple of episodes that allow you to forgive her plot thread's shortcomings, as her story comes full circle with a bang, and a loss of innocence on her part.
From the shocking suprise that CTU, the main set of the show, where everything happens, is blown up by the third episode, goes to show you how creative and brilliant the show's makers are. Not only taking a chance with that idea, but completely blowing its predecessor season out of the water, with plot twist after plot twist. The action expertly staged and choreographed, with many supporting film actors cropping up to remind us, as the audience, that we are, in every respect, watching a film, of the highest order.
People always ask me what my favourite films are. I always say stuff like "GoodFellas" or "The Shawshank Redemption,"when I mention,"Oh, and 24," they always laugh. But if they had seen it,they would know i am serious!

An Action packed set of dvd's

I have followed the exploits of Jack Bauer through thick and thin every week on Television. From series 1 through to the latest series 5
I purchased 24-series 2 too add to my other collection of dvd's of this series.
I can then watch them all over again (you always miss some of the action first time around when there is so much action packed into every minute I am spellbound its so watchable).
Then of course when buying the dvds their are no adverts to wait through or fast forward through if you have taped it
Its nice to pick a weekend when you can sit there with T.V. dinners takeaways etc and get completely absorbed into the action.
I am clearly a fan of the series. I am sure I am not the only one

Come on 24 lets get to the top of the charts.

This is what Tv is about. Jack kicking AS*. I never knew that the americans were so good. Maybe Jack is the only one.

Come on Jack. You have all these busy days and no time to think.

This series of 24 sees Jack, an American CTU agent, trying to single-handedly prevent World War 3. You no he will save the day in the end.

OK, so the plot sounds a bit far-fetched but its so watchable. Its originality and creativity are not marred by the irrelevent subplots and ridiculous action sequences due to the outstanding performances by the cast and the gripping production values. This is the only television show I have ever been addicted to - the desire to watch the next episode is almost unbearable for me. Thats why I went on to watch the fourth in one go. Yes one Go.

I cannot wait until Jack Bauer returns to our television screens with his third adventure. Worth the licence fee alone in my opinion!

He needs to stay out of jail for us to get this going.

  24 - Series 2 DVD Box set
Review created: 06/09/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recently borrowed my brother-in-law's 24 box set series 1. For some reason I missed the boat with this supposed classic slice of TV and sat down to see if it gripped me in the way many people told me it would. Fast moving and totally absorbing - I was hooked ! I had to track down series 2 quickly but £44.99 in HMV stopped me in my tracks. Ebay time - £17.99 with p&p , excellent nick and delivered within 3 days.
Reading a few reviews led me to believe series 2 was not as good as 1. How wrong could this be ! The plot is compelling , the characters believable and demanding your attention and above all it was exciting all the way through every episode. I'm up to series 4 now but this is still the benchmark for me. Watch series 1 then give yourself a clear run, tell the world to f**k off and do the whole series 2 in one go. Best thing I've seen in years !

  Even better than Series 1.....
Review created: 01/09/07(updated 01/09/07)

I am now hooked on the entire 24 concept, having been a latecomer to the game.

A couple of months ago I finished Series 1 and then just last week went through series 2. I missed out on the phenomenon when 24 started and as a result am playing the DVD game.. but wow was it worth it. At least with the DVD's you can watch the next episode without waiting 7 days to see it from TC transmissions.

This series is even more gripping and adrenalin building than the first and really lays down the gauntlet in the new age of hand held camera shots and split screen imaging.

The series starts with Jack still reeling from the loss of his wife (in series 1) and trying to reach a daughter that is still too numb to handle contact in any large way... by the end of the series though all this has been put to rights and a new cliff hanger has emerged to get you waiting with baited breath for series 3.

I liked the fact that with 24, and especially in this series, the hero isn't always the good guy, neither is he always safe and free from harms way. Like series 1 there are several twists and turns and once more many of them come out of the blue... if you are anything like me they will have you re-watching just to see whether the clues were there (in earlier episodes) as to the inevitability of each twist.

This is one series where you will be one minute holding your breath, hoping that certain things don't happen, and the next minute emotionally unbalanced at the sad events that crop up... the classic one being when Jack's daughter is told by here boyfriend that he doesn't want to see her any longer. I still can't work out if this might be due to hating her for everything that happened leading up to the split; or if he did not want to burden her with what could be several future problems.

24 Series 3 is genderless.. with full on action and thrills for those that want them, but a great storyline and several emotional hooks for the ladies (and gents) out there that crave for more than pure violence/action and want something to analyse too.

Now where is Series 3!

After just finishing series 6 of this, I have to say it is one of the best TV show I have ever watched. It had me hooked from series one, episode one, right the way though to the end of series 6, and I can't wait for series 7 to begin in Jan 2008. I would recommend this to anybody that was looking for something to watch as I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Overall, WELL WORTH WATCHING :)

I bought this item because I had seen 24 on Tv but hadn't watched series one before that, make sure you watch the series in the right order otherwise it ruins it!! This series is probably the best, far more complicated than series one, with unexpected twists and turn in every episode, you'll want to set 24 hours aside to watch it in one go!!

This is one series that just gets BETTER!!

I never saw 24 on TV, but bought Series 1 because of a friend's recommendation. I watched all the episodes back to back over the course of 2 days and BOY was I impressed! I thought it was the best series I'd ever seen, bar none. How wrong I was...

When Series 2 arrived, I expected that perhaps the story and direction would have lost much of its grandeur and impressiveness, but this series blew me away entirely - more gritty and compelling than the first, I stayed up til 6am and watched the 18 hours of footage in one go.

I won't give anything away (there is an episode summary booklet included) but would say to anybody who thinks that 24, Lost and Prison Break are a fad - 24 is NOT your average TV show, and Series 2 is the best of a fantastic bunch.

You can watch this and feel like you've been on an exhilarating ride all the way through.

Make sure you watch the first series before the second, as you will miss much of the character building.

There is one Caveat, however. If you buy one, you'll end up buying them all. It's a satisfying addiction!

  24 seasons 1 - 4

This show is the best thing I have ever seen.
The action and tension are endless, and the stories are crafted intelligently.
Very rarely can you see where the plot is going to take you.
Everyone told me this was addictive. I thought how can a film or programme be so addictive?
The fact is, every episode leaves on something of a cliffhanger, and when you hear that familiar title music, you can't help but watch "just one more".
It makes shows like The Shield look pathetic in comparison.Yes they are quite different, but the standard of the writing and the magnetism of 24 is missing in The Shield, and many others.
I went out looking for other tv series after watching this, and nothing else compared.
I would recommend starting from season 1 and watching in chronological order to get the most from it.
Beware of the many cheap illegal Asian imports flooding Ebay at the moment.
They may be a bit cheaper, but the quality is markedly different and you are funding illegal crime and god knows what else by buying them.
MAKE SURE YOUR DVD IS A UK REGION 2 RETAIL VERSION.
If in doubt - ask them in no uncertain terms to clarify this. Any reasonable seller will be happy to dismiss your concerns.

I personally think that 24 is FANTASCTIC which is unusual for me as I don't like cheesy hard to beleive story lines and poor acting BUT 24 is just so compelling, even though it is SO far fetched at times - you really do find yoyr adreneline pumping all the way through each episode.

David Bauer (keifer) and President Palmer are the actors that really hold it for me.

I'd say you'll either love it or hate it.

jack is back in the second worst day of his life, poor bloke.
brilliant plot, well written and great acting, one let down is the filler story of jacks daughter, kim, whose whole point in being in the series is to fill the gaps when jack is in the car..... but the kim part of the story does get a little far fetched as she keeps getting into situations one after the other in 24 hours.... huh ok
but apart from that a brilliant way to spend 24 hours of your life if you have nothing else to do.... like me!

i would buy from this person again
Review created: 21/07/09
by:

when i read the item description, i thought, this is great, the item that i was looking for, and it did state that the box was a little tatty, but the discs worked perfectly. when i received the item, the box came apart, it wasn't glued at the edges anymore, which i now have to glue myself in order to resell it, as this is what's cheaper for me; to buy dvds off ebay and resell them again on ebay. it's easy.

the discs do play perfectly, but i have a feeling that i'm going to lose out on some money because i didn't realise just how ratty the box was. if i'd have been told the box had come apart, i would have thought twice about buying it, as like i said, it's to be resold, and who else wants to buy a dvd with a tatty box? we weren't too fussed at the time, as it's not the box you watch, but the dvds, but talking from a sellers point of view, everything matters.

like i said in the title, i would buy from this person again as the transaction was smooth, and the delivery was fast, which is what's expected of an ebay seller.
